Things Have Changed in EPAB

We have restructured our office and are quite pleased with the changes.  Personnel and organizational changes have been made and some are listed below:

  1. Jon Puryear is now the Assistant to the Medical Director and is responsible for the majority of activities in the EPAB office.  If you have any questions or concerns related to EPAB, you may contact him.
  2. Daniel Ebbett has accepted a full time position as Medical Control Associate in EPAB.  He has many job responsibilities in including developing and teaching continuing education for MedStar and First Responders (more on-line training in the future), research and development, etc.
  3. Kaye Sheets was hired as our Full Time Administrative Assistant.  Now, there will be someone in the office to help you during regular business hours.  Kaye does not have any EMS training and may concentrate on the administrative duties of EPAB.
  4. Julie Moore is a Part Time Paramedic/Medical Control Associate in EPAB. She is responsible for MARTs, Hypoxic and ROSC studies.
  5. Dr. John K. Griswell will continue to serve as the MedStar Medical Director.

Other current activities include writing new protocols, researching our current treatment and other’s protocols and treatments, current “state-of-the-art” continuing education delivery technology, overall quality assurance and quality improvement, annual protocol examinations (medic, first responders, and base station physicians), along with other areas of EMS.  On Friday evenings, start looking for Jon and Dr. Griswell on MedStar 10 responding to calls.

Please contact us with any questions, suggestions or concerns.

EPAB Board Revises Hospital Divert Policy

During a special meeting of the Emergency Physicians Advisory Board, a revised divert policy was unanimously approved.  The policy sets criteria for hospital closures and restricts patient diverts to only those by designated trauma centers. The pilot started in March.

The policy was tested for approximately 90 days, and the board met on June 1st of last year to review the impact it had on the EMS system in Ft. Worth. They unanimously approved to indefinitely continue the No-Divert policy. As a result, Fort Worth hospitals no longer divert medical patients.

The EPAB board meetings are held quarterly, and are open public meetings. Please click the meeting agendas link in the navigation bar above to obtain directions and agendas.
